We are looking to hire a hard-working and experienced Line Cook to supervise all food preparation activities and ensure that high standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained. The Line cook’s responsibilities include assisting the Catering Chef in preparing delicious experiences, advising on suitable portion sizes, and contributing to our customer satisfaction. 

This role can provide you with the:

  • Knowledge of Indigenous foods & culture.
  • Knowledge of a decolonized dining experience.
  • Knowledge of guest service fundamentals and experience building a guest first culture on your team.
  • Skills in planning workload to support priorities and deliver sales goals.

 As a Line Cook – no two days are ever the same, but a typical day will most likely include the following responsibilities:

  •     Organize and prioritize preparation of food items by setting up kitchen stations and stocking food products and supplies.
  •     Prepare food by cleaning, cutting, chopping, mixing, and preparing sauces and other specifications.
  •     Cook food in a timely manner according to specified recipes and standards by designated managers.
  •     Ensure proper size and weight of food portions.
  •     Coordinate food preparation with other kitchen staff and work with servers to ensure that orders are completed accurately and on time. 
  •     Maintain line of sight/atmosphere control by circulating through work area throughout shift.
  •     Follow standard recipes regarding presentation of food items.
  •     Prepare plate presentation pursuant to standard recipes and Senior Chef’s guidance. 
  •     Assess the quality of delivered food to ensure that it meets and exceeds restaurant standards.
  •     Clean and maintain kitchen, equipment, surrounding areas and ensure that the kitchen remains free of hazards during shifts. 
  •     Keep the floor clean and free of food items, trash, or other obstacles.
  •     Ensure that the kitchen operation procedures meet and exceed sanitation and food safety standards, including food handling and storage.
  •     Maintain a clean and sanitary workstation area including tables, shelves, refrigeration equipment throughout and at the end of each shift. 
  •     Wash dishes, clean floors, sanitize utensils and break down of all kitchen equipment at the end of the shift.
  •     Be a team player and help other stations when needed with prep and service.
  •     Ensure proper rotation of all food items, including the lifting/moving of food bins.
  •     Adhere to standard food rotation practices to reduce food waste and minimize the risk of contamination.  
  •     Aid managers in conducting orientation and oversee new employee training.
  •     Perform all opening and closing duties.
  •     Represent The Sioux Chefs values in the community.
  •     Perform other related duties as assigned. 

 There are a few skills you should have from the get-go:

  •     Must be 18 years of age (or 21).
  •     Proven experience or other relevant catering experience in high-volume kitchen operations.
  •     Good knowledge of culinary art, equipment, ingredients and confident culinary techniques and skills.
  •     Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with managers, coworkers, and key stakeholders.
  •     Learn and adapt to current technology needs.
  •     Work both independently and with a team.
  •     Attention to detail and ability to follow a multi-step process.
  •     Ability to inspect food spoilage and proper rotation.
  •     Ability to maintain the pace of a high-volume and fast paced kitchen.
  •     Strong organizational and time management skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced teamwork environment with accuracy and speed.
  •     A good working knowledge of systems, methods, and processes that contribute to great execution. 
  •     Valid Health Department Food Handler Certification
